Excel Dryer’s high-speed, energy-efficient hand dryer, XLERATOR®, has become the new industry standard helping architectural and building professionals adopt environmentally-friendly solutions
East Longmeadow, MA –November 5, 2013 – Excel Dryer, Inc., manufacturer of the original, patented, high-speed and energy-efficient XLERATOR Hand Dryer, today announced a partnership with Architecture 2030, a nonprofit, nonpartisan and independent organization established in response to the climate change crisis. Architecture 2030’s mission is to rapidly transform the built environment from a major contributor of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to a solution for the climate and energy crisis through two primary objectives: reducing fossil fuel consumption and GHG emissions; and the regional development of an adaptive, resilient built environment that can manage the impacts of climate change, preserve natural resources and access low-cost, renewable energy resources.
“We are thrilled to have Excel Dryer as a partner of our 2030 Challenge for Products,” said Edward Mazria, founder of Architecture 2030. “Excel Dryer’s dedication to research and development that upsets the status quo by offering innovative and sustainable solutions is remarkable. Through our challenge we are raising awareness about climate change and the energy crisis, highlighting solutions in the marketplace like XLERATOR while also encouraging the building and design community to adopt ‘green’ technologies.”
Specifically, the 2030 Challenge for Products program seeks thought leaders of the global architecture and building community to adopt, design and manufacture ‘green’ and sustainable products to reduce the carbon footprint by 30 percent below the product average by 2014 and then incrementally improving the reduction to 50 percent by the year 2030.
“Excel Dryer is pleased to partner with Architecture 2030 as we share the same mission to positively impact the environment with sustainable, energy-saving and cost-saving solutions,” said Vice President of Marketing at Excel Dryer, William Gagnon. “XLERATOR is a prime example of a simple change any building professional can specify for virtually any purpose from new construction, complete renovations or even just a single project to retrofit existing paper towel dispensers with our XChanger® retrofit kit. One small change can leave a lasting imprint on the environment and even inspires other larger projects.”
Architecture 2030 focuses on the building sector because it is responsible for almost half of the energy consumption, 49 percent, and GHG emissions, 47 percent, in the United States. While the majority of the energy consumption and their associated emissions come from building operations such as heating, cooling and lighting, the embodied energy and emissions of building materials and products are also becoming increasingly significant. When including all products for the built environment, such as furniture, movable equipment and appliances, the percentage of energy consumption and GHG emissions is even higher.
As part of the 2030 Challenge for Products, Architecture 2030 requires manufacturers to produce third party expert verified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies and requires architectural and building professionals to specify low-carbon building products that meet the program targets. The peer reviewed (per ISO 14040 standards) Life Cycle Assessment of XLERATOR confirmed it reduces the carbon footprint of hand drying by 50-70 percent when compared to both traditional hand dryers and even 100 percent recycled paper towels.
